My research interests revolve around understanding hierarchical properties of ecosystems, and how natural and anthropogenic disturbances influence multi-scale ecological patterns and processes over time and space. I am interested in bringing together theoretical and analytical techniques from diverse disciplines to examine key relationships and feedbacks between people, climate, plants, wildlife, and water resources using an integrated coupled human and natural systems (CHANS) approach. More specifically, I use a combination of field and laboratory work, satellite remote sensing and GIS, multivariate statistical techniques, and computer modeling to answer the when, where, how fast, and to what extent questions of ecological change, and develop more informed natural resource management and conservation decisions.
